There is a great deal of evidence to confirm the importance of mathematics in every aspect of our lives, even our earning power is affected. Dyscalculia or Mathematics difficulty is common and results in much anxiety, failure and loss of confidence.

Understanding Maths Learning
Course Outline:
The Barriers to Learning Maths
An overview of the many factors that can hinder learning, including mathematical memory and visual issues.
Thinking Style in Mathematics
Learners and teachers think through problems in different ways. This session will allow you to diagnose your own thinking style and explain the implications for teaching all children.
Teaching Addition & Subtraction
Multiplication & Division
Maths is such a developmental subject that any gaps in understanding topics will be highly detrimental to progress. This session will explain how the four operations, add, subtract, multiply and divide can be taught in a way that they interlink and become mutually supportive.

The Affective Domain
The affective domain includes self-esteem, self-concept and anxiety. This session looks at the emotional issues surrounding motivation, why some children give up on maths. Also the role of expectations will be discussed and the use of attributional style as the key principle behind
interventions.
